Carefully unbox your Ledger hardware wallet. You'll find your device, a USB cable, a recovery sheet, and a getting started card. Connect your Ledger to your computer or smartphone using the provided USB cable. The device will power on automatically and display a welcome message on its screen.
Visit Ledger.com/start and download the official Ledger Live application for your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android). Install the application and launch it. Ledger Live is your gateway to managing all your crypto assets and will guide you through the entire setup process with clear, step-by-step instructions.
When you first connect your Ledger, you'll be prompted to set up a new device. Create a secure 4-8 digit PIN code that you'll use to unlock your device. Choose a PIN that's memorable to you but difficult for others to guess. Never share this PIN with anyone. You'll need to enter this PIN each time you want to access your wallet or approve transactions.
This is the most critical step in securing your crypto. Your Ledger will display 24 words on its screen, one at a time. Write these words down in the exact order on the recovery sheet provided. This recovery phrase is the backup to your entire wallet. If you lose your device, you can restore all your accounts using these 24 words. Store this phrase in a safe place, never take a photo of it, and never enter it on any website or app. Anyone with access to your recovery phrase can access your funds.
